Spring 2010 Workshops
Registration
Description of Lukeion Workshops:
The Lukeion Project provides the following 4-week
workshops for those working at junior high level through adult. We welcome
interested learners and gifted students of all ages.
Workshops at the Lukeion Project are specially designed to ignite an interest
in the ancient world or fan the flames of an already avid Classics buff.
Each session is very visual and full of the interesting information that makes
history come to life. All of our sessions are live online. If
learners have questions we answer them live and on the spot. After each
session, learners may visit the class web page to play specially designed review
games, follow links to museum or excavations sites, or read pertinent news
stories or additional primary texts. We encourage our learners to take the
discussion to family and peers. Our hope is that each learner gains an
interest in exploring the Classical world even more.
We restrict the size of each of our courses to make them both manageable and
enjoyable for all involved. Please be
careful to note the exact time and dates for your workshop. Paid
registrants will receive a key to join the workshop sessions at least 48 hours
prior to the first meeting.
To check on availability prior to
registration, see our master schedule.

Introduction to Archaeology
 |
Thursdays at 10:15 am
March 25-April 22 |
Whether it comes from a Hollywood movie, a TV documentary, or a
library book, nearly everyone at some point wonders what it’s like to be
an archaeologist. This is your chance to find out. Get an up-close view
of the life of an archaeologist. We examine all aspects of life on a
dig: from the methodology of excavating and documenting, to the mundane
questions of surviving an excavation: What does an archaeologist eat?
Where does she live? How do you do your laundry? How does one become an
archaeologist? Do you really use a toothbrush and dental pick to dig?
What do you do with what you find? Did you ever find anything REALLY
cool? This class is interactive with plenty of Q&A time and
illustrations straight from the instructor’s excavations in Jordan,
Greece and Turkey.
"I need to stop being so surprised about how much I enjoy these classes.
The Lukeion is more than professors telling you something, having you
repeat it back, then tell you where you made a mistake. Their classes
are fun (a highly important factor to teenagers). And how many students
get to brag to their friends that their professors are just like Indiana
Jones and Laura Croft?"
